Well not really Kuranda, although I’d love some vintage cards of the place. I mentioned the other day I’d found some cards from Kuranda in my stack of forgotten vintage cards.

According to the back of this card (which is sadly unused), this photo was taken in March 1967. I love the gold leaf lettering, it’s so chic! The following photograph I took in late March, 2009.

I assume the postcard photo was taken in early March when the wet season is still roaring. Although it’s possible rainfall is down.
The other card is this one, of the Kuranda Scenic Railway. There’s no year on the back, so I’m assuming it’s also around 1967. I might be wrong. I’m not usually though

It must have been pretty awesome steam training though the rainforest. These days the train is electric, easier to run than a steam train.

If that photo is not in the same place, it’s close enough for me to post as a comparison.
So there you have it, Greetings from Kuranda, late 1960s. Neither card is used, which as I’ve mentioned a lot makes me a little sad. As pretty as mint cards are, I do like to nose around in other people’s lives get a glimpse of earlier lifestyles.

Good old cards. The train now is diesel not electric. A few years ago, during the Centenary of the Railway, a small steam train did trips from Kuranda to a small station west of Kuranda. I’ll try to get you postcard of the little steam train at the Kuranda station.
